All in one pocket

Knit the garment up to the pocket opening. Place the needles either side of the opening into holding position and set your machine to hold.

Knit a hem: knit the first row of the hem adding a contrast nylon cord to be able to pick up those stitches for hem. Then knit the lining long enough, twice the length of the pocket depth.

Then take needles out of work and finish the piece.

When done attach hem to sides and close side seams of pocket.

Patch pocket

Knit pocket first and take off on waste yarn. Pocket can be startet with ribbing or seam.

Then knit the garment until the lower pocket placement.

Take the stitches where pocket goes on waste yarn, hang the pocket on those empty needles, right side facing. Then hang the garment piece that is on waste yarn on top, continue to knit the garment.

When done turn pocket towards top and stitch sides to garment.

Slit pocket

Knit the garment. When you want to start the lower part of pocket, put needles on hold on right (or left side), continue to knit a certain number of rows. Put those needles on his and knit the other part, same number of rows, then continue to finish the garment. There will be a vertical slit.

With wrong side of the garment facing, pick up the stitches along one edge of slit, make a hem, then knit pocket, again twice as long as you want the pocket deep, take off on waste yarn.

Turn the pocket lining round so that the right side is facing you and replace the stitches on the machine, the waste yarn being at the front.

With the wrong side of the garment facing, pick up the stitches from the other side of the slit. There are now two stitches on each needle. Knit one loose row and then latch off.

Attach sides of hem to garment and close pocket sides.
